He showed up on the Ellen Degeneres show and lo and behold, seemed totally unprepared for a debate on gay marriage. He uncomfortably mumbled his way through a few "my opinion on marriage is.."s and "we respectfully disagree"s. I understand she probably wants to keep things civil with guests on her show (to get them to come back), but she really should've taken him to town on that one.
I wouldn't give McCain too much chance for the GE, Kvlt. I think you underestimate how turned-off the public has been growing lately from the Republican party. In special elections this year, Democrats have already taken three seats in congress from very republican/conservative districts (all districts that Bush won by very comfortable margins in '04), showing more and more that the country is growing tired of them. They've also got some 30 seats where incumbent Republicans are not running for re-election.
McCain may be coasting right now, but in the end that may be good for the Democrats. He's a powder keg just waiting to blow...and I'm sure once the Dems have their nominee and the election gets into full swing, he'll take some massive blows that he wont have time to recover from. Already, Obama's taken hits on Tony Rezko, Jeremiah Wright and his comments about rural voters, but seems to have more-or-less regained his composure and standing because he's had time to do so. All they're really going to have to play against him in the GE is "Heez a leeberal!", which people have had enough of.
