Gothic Rock

I was curious if anyone besides me have an interest in Gothic music? I'm talking about bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus, The Cure, Alien Sex Fiend, Sisters of Mercy, etc. Or, if that's not the kind you're into (and since it goes somewhat hand-in-hand), then what darkwave/dark cabaret/death rock/steampunk (and so on) do you prefer?

In Gothic rock, I'd say Siouxsie hands down for me. The Cure's another huge favorite, too.

As for Darkwave/Dark Cabaret, I'm partial to Emilie Autumn, The Dresden Dolls, and Voltaire. For Death rock, Alien Sex Fiend and Christian Death; and finally, for Steampunk, I'd have to go with Dr. Steel and Abney Park. Please tell me I'm not alone on this one.

Different strokes for different folks I guess - most gothic rock, death-rock, etc. isn't really to my liking in truth. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy spinning the occasional album by a band like Leaves' Eyes (if only for Liv's angelic voice) when the mood permits, but the bulk of it isn't stuff I would cane to death. Without the music of acts such as Joy Division (who I really like) and Siouxsie & the Banshees, some of my favourite trip-hop and dance-punk releases probably would never have been inspired or crafted, so some tipping of the hat needs to take place. But that's all I can offer really, this isn't my scene.

It's all good, it's not everyone's thing.

Like some folks enjoy country, there are others who'd rather play a death metal band.

And goodness, how I love Leaves's Eyes. Theatre of Tragedy hasn't been the same since Liv Kristine left.
