You should have titled it something a little more clear :P
top 5 bands in no particular order... Machine Head Dark Tranquility Arch Enemy Lamb of God Devin Townsend (be it SYL, his solo work, or DTB) I really dont have many 'why's' to give though. Machine Head was one of the first metal bands I ever liked, hearing a song off some compilation album years and years ago. Arch Enemy sums up my taste for female vocalists in metal, despite their earlier work not having a female lead hehe. Plus they have soem mean riffs. Devin is just amazing alla round, plus he is canadian. Mad Scientist of Metal for the win!. Dark Tranquility are a good example of that whole gothenburg sound alot of bands have, and I do quite enjoy it. As for Lamb of God....a good band but after seeing them live, they can put on a HELL of a good show...

1) Nirvana
2) Foo Fighters 3) Soundgarden 4) The Beatles 5) The Doors Nirvana will always be my favorite band, every single song of thiers is a masterpiece. I have a huge love for Kurt Cobain and miss him terribly but the guy had problems and i can understand why he wanted to take his life. Foo Fighters just have this raw energy, you cant help but like them, they have a mix of styles and are open minded to different types of music, tis why i love them Soundgarden- Black Hole Sun. 'Nuff said The Beatles are self explanatory. Just plain genius. The Doors are in the same boat as The Beatles, averyone has to atleast respect them if not like there music. Jim Morrison's voice sends chills down my spine, especailly on 'The End' Runners up: System of a down The Who Iron Maiden Jimi Hendrix

5). Black Sabbath. These guys rock hard and they were an early addition to my playlist, but later on I found a tribute album that opened my eyes to other, newer metal bands.
4). Pink Floyd. I found a 'Dark Side of the Moon' record when I was just 14 and I thought that was amazing with really nice instrumentals all over the place, it really captured what the era was back then. I got a bit more and learned more about them and really are the authority on the 60's and 70's for me. 3). Rob Zombie. I found him when I was eleven or twelve, I heard 'Scum of the Earth on the Mission Impossible 2 soundtrack, and for a almost a year I didn't get any new music, because of a lack of filesharing, and then I saw 'Living Dead Girl' on a music video TV show. A couple of years ago, I went shopping and found 'Past, Present and Future' and loved every track on that. 2). Megadeth. Bringing up from there, I started listening to Megadeth when I saw a Maddox interview, where he pointed out he listened to a few metal bands ( including Pantera, Prong and Sepultura). I liked thew other two, but Megadeth were just plain amazing, and is everything Metallica should be. They can vary styles and change sounds drastically through songs, while still sounding very professional and keeping it at a speed that kicks ass. 1). Judas Priest. 'Priest, I was introduced to, the year before last, while I was looking at metal reviews at the shops and I saw 'Painkiller' in their archives and it had come out the day I was born so I took a note and downloaded some and it kicked ass amounts of ass. I followed this up with British Steel, which was considered their best album, and then on from there. Honourable Mentions: Prong. Led Zeppelin. Pearl Jam. Danzig. GG Allin. Tool.

Mushroomhead
I can't really find words to describe why I developed such an obsession with this band. But I did. From the moment I heard the opening of Solitare Unravelling way back in 2003, I was hooked. Xx is undoubtably the best album I've ever heard by anyone, and I've listened to it so many times. The same goes for XIII (except for the 'best album ever' part, of course). Sadly, the band is just, well, pretty bad right now. Savior Sorrow was a total disappointment, and I don't see them getting any better any time soon. Like many bands, they had their prime and they've not aged like wine. I don't really have any other favorite bands, but Talking Heads are great. I need to listen to more of them. Also, honorable mention to Godsmack, and Dream Theater.

Shit, I totally forgot about this topic ...
Well, as a rap fan for the last 10 years - my rock list will look nothing like your's. Ha. 1.) Billy Talent. At first I thought the lead singer's voice was like scraping your finger nails across a chalkboard. But now, it's grown on me & I like a majority of their songs. 2.) Breaking Benjamin. Started listening to them when I got tired of hip/rap music. They were the first rock band I really gave a try, other than The Offspring. Phobia is probably my favorite CD, at least by a rock band. 3.) Three Days Grace. Very similar to Breaking Benjamin .... if it's not broke, why fix it? Ha. Their new CD was pretty decent but I think I liked their first one a little more. 4.) Staind. I just like 90% their songs, Aaron Lewis' voice & I can relate to a lot of the lyrics. 5.) The Offspring. Great stuff. Self Esteem, She's Got Issues & Staring At The Sun are probably my favorites by them. |

Im a bit more commercial than you lot, although its only become commercial in the recent years which is another issue entirely, the rise of the guitar in britain annoys me when shit like Orson are gettin credit when decent bands in my opinion like Thirteen Senses, The Shins are ignored.
anyways heres mine: 1) Feeder - ala avatar! 2) The Coral 3) The Zutons 4) Starsailor 5) Editors

1. Metallica - First metal band I ever listened to, they were kind of scary at the time seeing as I was 9 years old or so. Nowadays, I consider them my #1 favorite band. Sure, albums after the black album weren't as good as previous albums, but I still find myself listening to a couple of "new" songs here and there. I could listen to just one song for entire month and not get sick of it. Basically, Metallica = Warm fuzzy feelings.
(the next bands are in no particular order...exsept for alphabetically, XD) 2. Children of Bodom - The vocals may not be the greatest thing ever, but other than that, CoB is great. I love that they're melodic, yet raw at the same time (IMO). First song I ever listened to was "Angels Don't Kill", I was blown away. So, I went out and bought their cd and I still love them like I loved them then (3 years ago). Plus, their cover of Britney Spears "Oops, I did it again!" amuses me greatly. 3. Cradle of Filth - Ha, of course, I just had to mention this. Black metal or not, this band kicks ass. So this was when I was getting more into music and what not. I was skimming through the channels and stopped to watch Headbanger's Ball (to see if they had something playing that wasn't complete crap). Nymphetamine Fix popped up and I was hooked. Fond as I am of their latest albums, The Principle of Evil Made Flesh is still my favorite album. 4. Iron Maiden - Eddie actually caught my eye while browsing through some cd's at the music store my sister worked in. I decided to purchase said cd (Killers, btw) and after giving it a listen to, I was in love (...not really). No offense to the previous/other Maiden vocalists, but I prefer Bruce Dickinson's vocals. His vocals are really, really, really amazing. I bought The Number of the Beast afterwards, that album pretty much did it for me. Amazing. 5. Judas Priest - Hell Bent for Leather, Rob Halford and twin-lead guitars, that's pretty much all I have to say. Mmhmm. Other bands that would have made the list.... Blind Guardian Pantera Megadeth Nightwish Otep

Ouch. At one time I'd considered starting a thread called "Top Fives" where someone makes a post listing a random genre, then the next five posts consist of users name-dropping their top five artists in said genre. There's far too many quality artists out there for me to be able to list a cast-iron top five in good conscience.
