Default The Dark Knight

Tried searching for an already existing thread, but alas, to no avail.

So has anybody seen the trailer's over at Youtube.com? I think Heath Ledger has the perfect look for the Joker.

Discuss.

Nah, that 6 min vid got taken down before I got to see it. I did'nt think having a "Bat-Cycle" would be a good idea, but it kinda looks badass. I'm hoping after Two-Face they might put Bane in, because he's not actually far fetched at all, just a man on "Adrenalin" or Steroid's.

No offense to you, but I think its lame that pretty much everyone seems to be saying the same thing. Im not saying I have a problem with the new Joker, its just that I dont think anyone has seen enough to be praising Ledger so much. I mean what have we seen? A few minutes of footage which featured very little of him, and a couple of sound bytes. Like I said, from what Ive seen so far, I like the direction this is headed, but I dont think anyone has enough information to be sucking him off just yet.

Although his look, and the way that the robbery played out in general was perfect, but I quite frankly just dont think hes going to be funny. You can make excuses all day. Oh, this is a new interpretation. This series is much darker, yada yada yada. Bottom line is, the Joker has to be funny. He simply has to be. If hes not funny, hes not the Joker. Obviously his humor should be very twisted, and dark, but nevertheless, it should be humorous. From what Ive seen, Ledger's Joker seems to be much more serious, and "cooler" than any previous incarnations. With Nicholson and Hamil to live up to, hes got his work cut out for him.

I have to admit I really like that they arent explaining the origins of the Joker this time. Everyone knows the story, so theres no need to waste screen time with yet another retelling with some slight differences. Plus its very reminisent of the Joker from the animated series. He just appeared, and his origins werent explained until much later on.

Search it in Google, youll be able to find it within a few pages.

I guess Ill have to see how TDK ends up to start making any calls on the next film, but I really hope that if they decide to cover the Two-Face storyline, they dont fuck it up. The best measure they could take to make sure this doesnt happen, is to build on Harvey Dents character in TDK. His relationship with Bruce Wayne, and his personal battle with inner demons is what made his character so great.

As for Bane, Ive been waiting to see him properly done since the "Batman & Robin" incident, so Id welcome it. I think hed fit perfectly into the Gotham that has been established.

No offence, but they Joker was never funny to begin with. He alway's just came off as a Thug with facepaint to me. Therefor when he tried to be funny, he looked like an Asshole. Any Criminal that tried to crack jokes whilst fighting in real life is most likly going to have his ass handed to him. So I love this "Dark Joker".

The Joker has always been a very "dark" character. The joke is, life is a joke. He delivers the punchline. Sometimes its death, sometimes they live to see tomorrow. He was also very obsessed with Batman, and always wanted to make him laugh. He is also a former comedian as well as a mobster. The Joker is funny, in a very sick way. Hes just a very misunderstood character. Of course it says something about someone who does in fact get the joke

You clearly don't read the 'Upcoming Movies' topic then as all this, and more, has already been posted.

However, I think this is a film that will warrant a fair amount of discussion so I'll leave it open.

When the new trailer was first released, I must have watched it like 5 times in a row. It has definetly peaked my interest, along with the first 6 minutes as well. I am rather excited for this film, and cannot wait for the summer to come.

I do think Ledger will do well as the Joker, wether or not he is perfect remains to be seen. However from what we have seen, the dialogue, the motions, everything looks good to me, fitting of the Joker. I never liked Jack's Joker to be honest, and I think this one is closer to what I believe is the real type of Joker, the insane type from TAS. I am sure the "jokes" will be present though, just not as much as they could be...which isnt a bad thing.

Not necessarily true. While he is clearly insane and has a remarkably dark sense of humor, you really can't define his motives. His relationship with Ol' Bats is very entangled, he hasn't ALWAYS been obsessed with him, nor did he always want to make him laugh.

His history of being a former comedian and mobster vary from story to story. There's really not a definable true-telling of it.

As for Heath's role as the Joker, I expect him to do well. He seems to have the derangement down good. I just hope he can full off the more humorous nature. His creepy laugh from the teaser gives me hope that he can pull it off. If they could pull off a translation of the Joker from the animated series, I'd probably have a joygasm.

And the Bat-cycle is dumb. No need for it.

All of those things vary from story to story, yes. But they all add up to give us the full story of the Joker. Its a matter of blending the variations, which is the only way to go in a film like this. Im not saying that all of that needed to be shown in the film, just that the traits associated with these things need to be present in order for this Joker to be THE Joker.

See nothing wrong with the Batcycle. It looks just like the one from TAS, and you cant have a new Batman movie without some new high tech equipment at his disposal. I cant wait to see the Batwing, but itll probably be film three.
