Dark Knight (twice)

Reviewed in the main topic.

Doomsday

Oh dear...

All the promotion basically led me to believe that the film would be akin to 28 Days Later.

It's not. Infact, it doesn't know what it wants to be.

The basic story is that a virus, known as The Reaper Virus, has spread across England and the country has been quarantined to prevent an outbreak. It seems like a success until the virus resurfaces in a major city. A specialist team is sent in to find a doctor who apparently has a cure within the quarantined area.

The thing is that the The Reaper Virus, the main aspect shown in the trailer, is barely in the film. The virus basically just causes the victims to decompose and infect others. They still retain near enough all their intelligence besides speech. There never really seems to be any immediate danger eventhough there's supposed to be an outbreak just on the brink.

Marshall already has The Descent and Dog Soldiers under his belt but this film plays out like a filmmakers first film, forcing all his ideas into one film incase it's his only chance. It's part Mad Max, part Robin Hood : Prince of Thieves and part 28 Days Later. But none of these parts add up.

It seems like a random mixture and it is. Everything about the film is pretty random and none of it seems to work. The casting seems odd, the soundtrack ranges from good instrumental music (which mainly seem to be remixed version of 'In A Heartbeat' from 28 Days Later) to 'Two Tirbes' and the story goes all over the place. It goes from the present day government setting to a Mad Maxian style world inhabitated by thugs to a ye olde England setting and then alternates between them.

The only good things about the film are the effects, which are a nice mix of digital and prosthetics, and the humour. But even the humour is random as it seems to occur in sections that you should be on the edge of your seat for. It's fair enough trying to break up the tension with some comedic relief but there's no build up and it's just so random!

Very disappointing.

The X-Files: I Want to Believe

Very disappointed, that's all I really wanna say about it. Don't waste $8.

Oh, but if you stay for after the credits, you get a glimpse of Scully in a swimsuit.

The X-Files: I Want To Believe

Not great, but still very good. Seeing Mulder and Scully back in action was worth the price of admission for me. I watched the first X-Files movie again the next day with my girlfriend and we both agreed... this one wasn't quite as good as Fight The Future. Here's hoping they do a third movie, based on the alien invasion.

8/10.

Batman: The Dark Knight

Amazing. This is the best movie I've seen in theaters since, well, The Departed. And to be honest, it is better. You know it is entertaining when almost three hours feels like a normal 90 minute film. Thank god for Heath Ledger.

10/10.

Pineapple Express.

Left me in tears it was so damn funny.

EDIT: Tropic Thunder - fucking funny. I think I picked up every friggin' reference to other movies it makes and laughed the hardest in the theatre at them. Everyone else there was a bunch of noobs who haven't even seen fucking Platoon (or Close Encounters of a Third Kind to a lesser extent).

Shooter

8.5/10

I'd say overall, this is a pretty good movie up until the very end where it just makes no fucking sense what-so-ever.

Tremors Saga (Tremors 0-3)

The first one is still the best in terms of trying to seem serious. The rest are just good ole Burt Gummer blood and gore super action fun time.

Tropic Thunder

10/10

Just a simply awesome movie. This had me laughing from the very first trailer with the Booty Sweat, lol.

Of all the trailers, I really want to see the one with Maguire and Downey Jr.

Quarantine

9.5/10

I went and saw this last night (opening night) and despite the theatre being full of assholes (mostly middle/high school kids and a few other people that kept talking throughout the whole movie) it was AWESOME.

Now I just have to wait for REC. to come out so I can compare the two...

Tropic Thunder

If you like military movies, like me, youll love every awsome second of this movie. I dont like Tom Cruise very much, and even he was great in this film. Downey Jr steals the show, of course.

10/10 (From a guy who loves military movies)

Lost Boys 2: The Tribe

Horrible. The guy who ruined Batman for awhile made a way better movie then this piece of shit. First one was great ,Corey Feldmen comes off as corney as he tries to talk in a deeper voice and has cheesy one liners. I liked the first film alot, and this really dissapoints me. Its to cheesy and lame. I can see why Kiefer didnt want to be in it. Thank you for that, Sutherland.
